Property Tax Bills

Property tax bills are mailed twice each year: July 1st and December 1st. Summer taxes are payable from July 1st through September 14th without interest, unless deferred. Winter taxes are payable from December 1st through February 28th without penalty or interest.

How to Make a Payment

Checks

Please write your property tax identification number on your check for reference. A contact number would also be appreciated for further questions. Payment will be recorded on the date received not the date it is mailed or the date the check is written.

Checks or cash are accepted for payment only. We do not accept any credit cards. Checks are considered a conditional payment. If not honored by the bank, tax is considered unpaid and subject to penalties and/or interest due and voided out.

To pay by Mail

Make checks payable to: Fenton Township Treasurer, 12060 Mantawauka Dr. Fenton, MI 48430. You will not receive a stamped paid receipt unless a self addressed envelope is enclosed with your payment.

To pay in person

Bring the mailer copy of your tax bill with you to the office along with payment. There is also an after hours drop box located on the right side of the entrance. Please do not deposit cash payments into the drop box. Postmarks are no longer accepted. Business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Interest and Penalties

Summer taxes are payable from July 1st through September 14th without interest. As of September 15th, a 1% interest charge per month will be assessed on unpaid summer taxes as follows:

Interest Schedule for Summer taxes Paid After September 14th:
September 15-30 1%
October 1-31 2%
November 1-30 3%
December 1-31 4%
January 1-31 5%
February 1-28 6%
March – delinquency to the Genesee County Treasurer

Winter taxes are payable from December 1st through February 28 without interest or penalty. As of March 1st, delinquent real property taxes are payable only to the Genesee County Treasurer, 1101 Beach Street, Flint MI 48502. A 4% penalty and 1% interest per month charge is applied to delinquent real taxes. Delinquent personal property, qualified real and IFT taxes are payable only to the Fenton Township Treasurer located at 12060 Mantawauka Dr. Fenton MI 48430. Please call the office at (810) 629-1537 to verify amount due. Penalties and interest are also applied to delinquent personal property.

Deferral of Summer Taxes

The law provided that beginning September 15th, 1% interest be paid on delinquent taxes. However, these may be deferred without interest until February 15th for any taxpayer who is a senior citizen 62 years of age, totally and permanently disabled, or otherwise eligible whose household income does not exceed $ 40,000.00 per year. Applications for deferment are available at the Fenton Township office and must be returned by September 14th to qualify for that tax year. This process must be repeated each year. Please include your telephone number on form.

Name or Address Changes

Change of name and/or address should be promptly reported to the Assessing department. If you have sold your property and received a statement in error, please forward the statement to the new owner or return it to the office with corrections or name and/or address.

Errors and Omissions

Please examine your statement closely to assure accuracy. Please notify our office of any possible errors.

  • Failure to receive your tax bill does not waive interest and/or penalties.

Dog Licenses

The Genesee County dog licenses go on sale each December 1st at the Fenton Township office. Dogs are now required to be licensed at four (4) months of age. Verification of rabies vaccination must be presented at the time of purchase. If your dog has already registered in the past, the county will send a filled out form to you in the mail. Our office will have blank forms available. Please bring prepared forms if possible.
