Notary Public

The Charter Township of Fenton provides notary public service at no charge to residents, taxpayers and business owners. A Notary Public is a public servant appointed by state government to witness the signing of important documents and administer oaths.

Documents are notarized to deter fraud and to ensure they are properly executed. An impartial witness (the Notary) identifies signers to screen out impostors and to make sure they have entered into agreements knowingly and willingly.  In order to identify the signer, the Notary will ask to see a current identification document or card with a photograph, physical description and signature. A driver's license, military ID or passport will usually be acceptable.

Please call ahead to make an appointment, especially if you have more than three signatures needed per document and/or more than three documents. A Notary is required to witness your signature on a document, so please DO NOT SIGN your documents until the Notary advises you to do so.
