Absentee ballots are typically available 40 days before an election. You can obtain an absent voter ballot by the following methods:
- Complete an Absent Voter Ballot Application and submit it to the Fenton Township Clerk by mail, email or fax.
- Request an Absent Voter Ballot Application from the Fenton Township Clerk by telephone, email, mail or fax. Then, complete, sign and return the application to the Fenton Township Clerk by mail, email or fax.
- Complete an Absent Voter Ballot Application in person at the Fenton Township office during regular office hours, or on the Saturday immediately before each election when the Clerk’s Department is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Apply for an absent voter ballot online. Visit the Michigan Voter Information Center on the Secretary of State website. Click on Apply for An Absent Voter Ballot Online on the left side of the page, then follow the instructions.
- Sign up for the Permanent Absentee Ballot List via the same methods are outline above for the Absent Voter Ballot Applications just check the box on the application for the Permanent Absentee Ballot List and receive an absentee ballot in the mail for all elections for which you are the voter are eligible. Permanent Absentee Ballot List voters will still receive a ballot selection form for Presidential Primary Elections in which they will have to select a ballot style from the options available.
Once a completed application is received, a ballot will be mailed to you. If applying to vote absentee in person, you may receive your ballot in person and, if you prefer, vote the ballot while at the Township Office.
If you wish to be added to our Permanent Absentee Ballot List, you may send a signed written request by mail, email or fax. Once on the Permanent Absentee Voter Ballot List, you will automatically receive an absentee ballot for every election for which you are eligible, without submitting an application.
RETURNING YOUR COMPLETED ABSENTEE BALLOT
The Clerk's Office must receive your absentee ballot by 8:00 p.m. local time on Election Day for your votes to be counted.
Absentee ballots may be returned by mail (no additional postage is required on the absent voter return envelope, if mailed within the United States), dropped off at the Clerk’s Office during regular business hours, deposited in one of the Fenton Township official absentee ballot drop boxes (located in front of the Fenton Township Civic Community Center at 12060 Mantawauka Drive; and the second is located at the Fenton Township Fire Station at 5120 Owen Road).
Please note that, for ballots dropped off at the Clerk’s Office or deposited in one of the drop boxes, the only persons who may return an absentee ballot are:
- The voter.
- A member of the voter’s immediate family who has been asked to return the ballot.
- A person residing in the voter’s household who has been asked to return the ballot.
Additionally, you make take your marked absent voter ballot to your polling place on election day (Lake Fenton High School at 4070 Lahring Road) or to the early voting site (Fenton Township Civic Community Center at 12060 Mantawauka Drive) during the early voting period, if early voting is available, and tabulate the ballot.
